Production of All-New Mazda6 Begins at Hofu Plant
- Ceremony held at Hofu Plant No. 2 to mark start of production-
HIROSHIMA, Japan (August 1, 2012) – Mazda Motor Corporation held a ceremony to commemorate the start of production of the new Mazda6 (known as Atenza in Japan), fully redesigned for the first time in five years. The ceremony took place at the company’s Hofu Plant No. 2, in Yamaguchi prefecture. Approximately 500 people gathered for the celebration, including Mazda’s Representative Director and Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, Takashi Yamanouchi, executives, employees and a representative of the Mazda Workers Union. The first vehicle to come off the line was a Mazda6 wagon built to European specifications and powered by the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine.
In his speech, Takashi Yamanouchi commented, “I am deeply moved that production of the third-generation Mazda6, the flagship model of our new-generation vehicles, starts in such an important year for us. It is the 30 year anniversary of the start of operations here in the Nishinoura district of the Hofu Plant and the 10th anniversary of the start of production of the first-generation Mazda6, back in 2002. That first Mazda6 debuted as an embodiment of Mazda’s brand message, Zoom-Zoom, and its success led to great improvement in our brand image. The new Mazda6 that starts rolling off the line today features both SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY and KODO —Soul of Motion design. Its development represents the very best of our engineering capability and our uncompromising attention to detail. Let’s all work together to promote the new Mazda6, to make it a model that gains the support of customers all over the world and leads the Mazda brand to a new level.”
Representing all Hofu Plant employees, Masatsugu Ohgi from the Trim & Final Assembly Gr. No. 2 in the Vehicle Production Dept. No. 4 said, “Incorporating everything we have learned about quality improvement through the production of nine million vehicles over 30 years at Hofu, we are determined to deliver a new generation Mazda6 that will outperform the previous model in every respect and stir the emotions of customers around the world.”
The all-new Mazda6 is the first model to be equipped with Mazda’s unique brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP. In all areas the development team tried to instill the essence of the Mazda brand, the joy of nimble handling that responds precisely to the driver’s intentions, while offering the class, style, quality and comfort people expect from a car in the CD segment.

The new Mazda6 will be introduced to the United States at the beginning of 2013 while earlier arrivals will occur in Europe and Japan before the end of 2012. Mazda is planning to produce approximately 120,000 units of the Mazda6 per year at the Hofu Plant.
Mazda will premiere the new Mazda6 sedan with Russian specifications at the Moscow International Automobile Salon 2012, which opens on August 29, 2012.

Fans may vote via text or at MLSsoccer.com for the All-Star First XI
*Houston Dynamo Press Release
NEW YORK (Thursday, June 7, 2012) – Major League Soccer will launch fan voting for the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star game at www.MLSsoccer.com and via text messaging tomorrow, Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m. CT.
A panel of media members nominated a total of 114 players – the top six per team – to the fan ballot. Fans can also vote by sending a player’s first and last name via text message to 22442. Twitter voting will occur June 21-22.
The players with the highest combined votes from these three voting methods will become the first 11 All-Stars – known as the All-Star First XI. The player who receives the most text votes by 4 p.m. CT on Monday, July 2 will automatically earn a spot among the All-Star First XI.
All-Star head coach Peter Nowak of the Philadelphia Union will choose the gameday roster and the starting lineup against Chelsea FC on July 25. The first marquee MLS event to be held at PPL Park in Chester, Penn., will be broadcast live on ESPN2, TeleFutura, and in Canada on TSN and RDS starting at 6:30 p.m. CT
A total of 32 All-Stars are named each year, per the collective bargaining agreement. Media, fans, players, the All-Star coach and MLS Commissioner Don Garber all contribute in the All-Star selection process.
The Dynamo have six representatives on the fan ballot: Goalkeeper Tally Hall; defenders
Bobby Boswell, Geoff Cameron and Andre Hainault; midfielder Brad Davis and forward
Will Bruin.
The 32 players named 2012 AT&T MLS All-Stars will be selected in four phases:
1) Ballot creation: A select media panel determined the field of players – six players per team – who are most deserving of consideration for this year’s All-Star Game. Those 114 players are eligible for fan voting.
2) Fan voting: From June 8 at 12 p.m. ET through July 2 at 5 p.m. ET, fans will select the “First XI” All-Stars. Fans can vote via any of three digital platforms:
a. At MLSsoccer.com: Vote for your starting lineup of 11 players, beginning June 8.
b. Via text message (SMS): Text an MLS player’s first and last name to 22442.
§ Each vote will count equally with those submitted online in determining the First XI.
§ The player who receives the most text votes will automatically earn a spot among the First XI.
§ Message and data rates may apply.
c. Twitter: From June 21-22; full details of Twitter voting will be released on MLSsoccer.com in the near future.
The First XI will be announced on Sunday, July 8, on ESPN during halftime of the Chicago Fire-LA Galaxy game that begins at 3 p.m. ET.
3) Team selection: The MLS All-Star head coach will select the gameday roster from the pool of eligible players, consisting of the First XI as determined by the fans, MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s two selections and players who received votes from at least two players.
The Commissioner selections and gameday roster will be announced on Sunday, July 15 on ESPN during halftime of the New York Red Bulls vs. Seattle Sounders FC game that begins at 4 p.m. ET.
4) Player selections: MLS players will determine the remainder of the 32 All-Stars named annually per the CBA (known as the “inactive roster”).
The final list of 32 All-Stars (4 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 13 midfielders and 7 forwards) will be announced on MLSsoccer.com on July 25.

The 2013 Mazda CX5 launch is still going strong and Mazda continues to promote and advertise the CX-5, as keeping it top-of-mind with consumers is important to sustain overall Mazda brand awareness and continued sales growth in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.
It’s a good indication that new car shoppers are still interested in compact SUVs when the Ford Escape, which has changed little since it debuted in 2000, is the fifth bestselling vehicle in the U.S. In fact, it had its best sales year ever in 2011, selling 254,293 units.
This month, Ford is launching their advertising campaign for the all-new 2013 Ford Escape. The July issue of Car and Driver (just released) includes their first-drive road test of the Escape 4WD Titanium model with a couple surprising points. The one big item to note is the Escape’s fuel efficiency…
Also in this C&D issue is a review of the 2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD…
Read Article on the Mazda CX-5 TOURING AWD
It’s not necessarily a true apples to apples as the Escape 4wd Titanium engine is the turbo inline 4 cylinder with 240 HP, but it also has a base MSRP of $32,945 compared to the CX-5 Touring AWD at $25,940 base MSRP.
Lastly in this issue is a review of compact sedans and the new Mazda3 SKYACTIV model. The review is on the same page as the Volkswagen Golf TDI and gives proof to why the Mazda3 with SKYACTIV technology is such a great product. The C&D observed Hwy MPG comes in at 45 MPG… that’s real world driving and testing from Car and Driver, and it’s only one MPG lower than the 46 MPG hwy they claim to have observed in the Volkswagen with a turdo-diesel engine. Price as tested, the Mazda3 is $1,500 less!

IRVINE, Calif. (May 24, 2012) - All new from the ground up and Mazda's first vehicle to fully incorporate SKYACTIV®[1] TECHNOLOGY, the 2013 CX-5 compact SUV has exceeded early expectations the world over by impressing not only critics but consumers as well. Entering the ever-expanding and always competitive compact SUV segment was never considered an easy task but CX-5 has proven itself a more than able-bodied contender.
"The 2013 CX-5 offers many of the needs and wants of compact SUV shoppers - and then some," said Robert Davis, senior vice president, U.S. Operations, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). "Its best-in-class fuel economy for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models as well as its precise handling and dynamic ability to perform on a demanding race track such as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca proves that the better, stronger, smarter philosophy behind SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY is not a gimmick but truly ground-breaking engineering."
Available in limited quantities at the end of February, CX-5 has enjoyed steadily brisk dealership traffic with total year-to-date sales in the United States of 7,503 units. Northern neighbor, Mazda Canada, Inc., has achieved sales of 3,324 units, an equally impressive figure in its smaller automotive market of about 2 million units (compared to the U.S.'s estimate of more than 14 million units).
Other global regions are experiencing similarly strong sales figures. In Australia, CX-5 is the country's best-selling compact SUV over the March and April period with more than 2,800 units sold. Russia leads the way in Europe with more than 7,500 vehicles ordered. Germany is a close second, achieving more than 5,000 vehicle orders since launching a little more than a month ago.
In Japan, home to global headquarters Mazda Motor Corporation, the annual sales target for CX-5 was initially set at 12,000 units. Since the vehicle's launch in mid-February, CX-5 has been an über-overachiever with sales already topping nearly 16,000 units. CX-5 models equipped with the 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine comprise nearly 80 percent of the domestic sales mix with the 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine making up the remaining 20 percent. In North America, only the SKYACTIV-G engine is available, making the region the global leader in sales of that engine.
Available in three trim levels - Sport, Touring and Grand Touring - CX-5 starts at a competitive $20,695 MSRP in the U.S. The CX-5 Sport FWD, when equipped with the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission, achieves a class-leading estimated EPA fuel economy of 26 city and 35 highway miles per gallon (MPG). The CX-5 Sport AWD, when equipped with the SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, is EPA rated at an equally best-in-class fuel economy of 25 city and 31 highway MPG.
The 2013 CX-5 also is recognized as a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Mazda's Popular Roadster Earns Its Second "10 Best" Mention on the Annual List
IRVINE, Calif. (May 23, 2012) - The 2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata today was named a 10 Best Road Trip Car in this year's convertible-themed list by the editors of Kelley Blue Book's www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new and used car information. Also, earlier in the year, MX-5 was the recipient of another Kelley Blue Book distinction - the inaugural Total Cost of Ownership Award in the Sports Car category - as the vehicle was calculated to have the lowest average costs in the first five years of ownership.
According to editors from Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com, MX-5 earned a spot on the short list, now in its ninth year, because "whether tracing sinuous back roads or circling simple freeway on-ramps, few cars can better transform those arcs into pure joy than the Mazda MX-5 Miata." This is MX-5's second appearance on the 10 Best list, previously being named in 2007.
"Time and time again, the MX-5 Miata proves why it is the best-selling two-seat roadster in the world and Mazda is proud to receive this recent honor from kbb.com," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). "Not only can the vehicle handle the Point A-to-Point B needs of a daily driver yet still offer the performance and athleticism demands to be a road racing champion, but all drivers can enjoy getting behind the wheel of a genuine sports convertible that is safe, dynamic, luxurious and attainable."
Available in four trims, the MX-5 is a lightweight, low-slung, rear-wheel-drive sports car with happiness-inducing handling, features and pricing. With a slender starting curb weight of 2,447 pounds, all MX-5s are equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and produce 167 horsepower (158 horsepower for automatic transmission-equipped models) and 140 lb-ft of torque. The roadster starts at $23,470 MSRP with a soft top and at $27,540 when outfitted with the Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT).
Founded in 1926, Kelley Blue Book provides the most market-reflective values in the industry on its top-rated website, www.kbb.com. The company also provides vehicle pricing and values through various products and services available to car dealers, auto manufacturers, finance and insurance companies as well as government agencies.
